What you need to know about disinfectants and cleaning agents

Whether your focus is on professional household chemicals or household cleaning products, understanding the pH level is crucial for making informed decisions about the right products for your needs. The pH level is an essential indicator that shows the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, and it is particularly important when dealing with household chemicals.
The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14:
Acidic solutions (pH 1-6): The effectiveness against limescale, rust, and other mineral deposits increases with the acidity level — the lower the number, the higher the acidity. Highly acidic products can effectively remove these deposits but require caution as they can damage certain surfaces, such as natural stone.
Neutral solutions (pH 7): Water is neutral and non-irritating, making it a safe choice for cleaning many surfaces.
Alkaline solutions (pH 8-14): The effectiveness against grease and oils increases with the level of alkalinity. Highly alkaline products are especially capable of removing such dirt, but care should be taken to avoid damaging surfaces like polymer-based materials and synthetic fabrics. The higher the number, the greater the alkalinity.
When working with chemical products that are highly acidic (pH below 2) or highly alkaline (pH above 11.5), it is essential to use chemically resistant gloves to protect the skin from possible harm. If the product emits vapors, protective goggles and respiratory protection are also required.

How improperly chosen chemicals can damage the surface: When selecting a cleaning agent, it is important to consider the surface material. For example, acidic cleaners can damage marble and other natural stone surfaces, as these materials are sensitive to acids. Likewise, alkaline solutions can bleach or damage polymer-based surfaces and synthetic fabrics. Therefore, it is crucial to carefully read and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the use of the product on specific surfaces to avoid potential damage.
